UP IIS Charts Vision 2030 Through Three-Day Transition Planning Workshop

As the UP Institute of Islamic Studies (UP IIS) prepares to move into its new home—the New Institute of Islamic Studies Complex in UP Diliman–the Institute is laying the groundwork for more than just a physical transition. Recognizing that a new building must be matched by stronger institutional systems, policies, and governance, UP IIS convened a three-day Transition Planning Workshop to ensure that its operations are fully aligned with its Vision 2030.

For Prof. Julkipli M. Wadi, Dean of UP IIS, the move represents far more than a change of address. It is a defining institutional milestone and an opportunity for the Institute to begin a new chapter with renewed purpose and excellence–to transfer with a “bang.”

Held on June 24–26, 2026, the workshop opened with a review of the Institute’s post-Internal Academic Assessment and Development System (iAADS) report. The iAADS is the University’s quality assurance mechanism for evaluating the performance of academic units across research and creative work, teaching, extension service, and overall institutional accomplishments.

Recognizing the assessment as a strategic planning tool, the post-iAADS review enabled each academic and administrative unit of the Institute to revisit its commitments, assess progress, identify remaining gaps, and formulate priority actions. The discussions provided a common understanding of the Institute’s current standing and established the foundation for the succeeding planning sessions.

Building on these findings, the second day focused on developing a comprehensive transition plan for the Institute. Participants reviewed existing systems, policies, and operational procedures to determine how they could be strengthened and aligned with both the Institute’s Vision 2030 and the requirements of its new home. The workshop also identified new governance mechanisms, operational protocols, and institutional policies that must be established to maximize the potential of the expanded facilities, support emerging academic and research programs, and enhance the Institute’s delivery of instruction, research, extension, and public service.

Facilitated by Dr. Nefertari A. Arsad, Quality Assurance Officer, together with Prof. Wadi, the workshop combined presentations, collaborative planning sessions, small-group workshops, and a walkthrough of the new Institute building. The program concluded with a commitment-setting activity, reaffirming the collective responsibility of faculty and staff in realizing the Institute’s shared vision.
