Financial Assistance, Scholarships and Grants

UP Institute of Islamic Studies scholarships to MA applicants shall depend upon:

1. Accumulated grade weighted average (GWA) or grade point average (GPA) of the applicant’s bachelor’s or Master’s degree, i.e., not less than 2.0 (in a one-point scale, 1.00 being the highest); not less than 3.00 (in a four-point scale, 4.00 being the highest); or not less than B or BB (in Letter grading system, i.e. A+ or AA being the highest).

2. Academic or work experience; for instance, competent background in Islamic Studies, knowledge of Arabic and English languages, and competent social sciences and humanities background or training.

QUALIFICATIONS:
a. Must be a natural born Filipino citizen;
b. Must be a bonafide student enrolled in any Master’s degree program in the University of the Philippines System;
c. Must have obtained a minimum GWA of “1.75” for a load of at least 9 academic units with no grade of “5.00”, unremoved “4.0” or “inc” in the semester immediately following the application.
d. Students graduated from Universities or colleges other than University of the Philippines must have earned at least (9 units) upon application.

* Free school fees except Student Fund
* Monthly stipend of P2,500.00
* Book allowance of P3,000.00/semester

UP Presidential Leadership Grants (click here for details)

QUALIFICATIONS:
a. must have a potential for leadership as shown in membership in student councils, organizations, debates, clubs, etc;
b. must have a general weighted average of at least “1.75” with no unremoved grade of “Inc.”.
c. must not have been the subject of disciplinary action worse than a five-day class suspension;
d. must be enrolled in at least 9 units at the time of the award

* Monthly stipend of P2,500.00
* Book allowance of P3,000.00/semester
* Thesis allowance of P5,000.00

Student and Graduate Assistantships (SAGA)
The UP SAGA is a program for upperclassmen and graduate students to gain experiences on leadership and ethics in the workplace while assisting the University in fulfilling its teaching, research, and public service functions. Student Assistants (SAs) and Graduate Assistants (GAs) are given allowances based on hours rendered. Graduate student assistantships are available to graduate students who show satisfactory academic work. Rates are currently at P60/ hour for undergraduate students, P100/hour for Masters students, and P140/hour for Doctorate students.

The UP Scholarship Programs are envisioned to honor and encourage outstanding academic achievement or talent, help academically qualified but financially needy students, and encourage enrollment in particular academic programs which are needed by our country.

Specialized Bursary: CHED scholarships for local graduate studies

Faculty and non-teaching staff from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) can go on full-time study to earn Master’s or Doctorate degrees, with scholarship privileges that include tuition cost, stipend, book allowance, and transportation allowance. Individuals with completed master’s or doctoral coursework may receive a grant to undertake research for the completion of the corresponding master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation.

Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) may nominate TEACHING & NON-TEACHING PERSONNEL who meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Is a Filipino citizen not more than 52 years old for the master’s degree program, or not more than 50 years old for the doctoral degree program; or not more than 60 years old for Thesis/Dissertation Grants
  • Must be fully or partially deloaded at the time of the scholarship, with a maximum teaching load of six (6) units for teaching personnel, or an equivalent of ten (10) hours of workload per week for non-teaching personnel.
  • Has graduated and possesses a degree relevant to his/her nomination, from a CHED-recognized program from a recognized institution
  • For personnel applying for FULL SCHOLARSHIP, whether new or ongoing, shall pursue graduate studies in a CHED-approved program and Delivering HEI
  • Shall pursue a course that is aligned with his/her teaching specialization, or justified in terms of alignment to the SHEI’s strategic direction/goals, contribution to the discipline, or contribution to regional and national goals
  • Is in good health and of good moral character;
  • Demonstrates strong academic record;
  • Has no pending criminal charges, and must not have been convicted for violation of any Philippine Law
  • Will fulfill the re-entry and return service agreement

Sending HEIs are requested to notify their prospective nominees to prepare the CLEAR COPIES of the following documents prior to the nomination period:

  • Proof of Citizenship (e.g. NSO Birth Certificate, Voter’s ID, Passport)
  • Transcript of Records for:
    • Undergraduate Degree
    • Graduate Degree (if completed degree)
  • Medical Certificate (you may download the template here)
